Gale's Italian Restaurant and Bar

It was a quaint little restaurant, tucked away on south Fair Oaks. I had a delicious salmon salad, in a large white bowl. I LOVE eating out of oversized bowls. The owner, Gale, came by the table, acknowledging that I was the one who ordered the bowl and, asked how I liked it! SIMPLY MAGNIFICENT!!! I'll definitely be back!

I'll have to come back again, first time here the Saturday after Valentine's day so I'm sure the amount of people was more than the usual, good thing had made a reservation online, very simple and fast. Food was great, definitely a cozy feel to the place. Overall would recommend a visit

last night was our first time in this magnificent restaurant. But It is obviously not the last. We passed a splendid evening with the excellent service, with the fine cuisine and fine drinks and with the friendly charge. We will absolutely come back in a short time.

Always delicious! You can choose as light of a meal (a starter or two) I had stuffed squash blossoms and steamed mussles, or as heavy (aka comfort food) as you want - Bolegnese... what ever you have - it will not dissapoint! A good wine list - also available by the glass. Great for a few people or a group in a great atmosphere!

What an enjoyable dinner. It's nice to walk into a place and see everybody having a good time. We sat in the bar area and ordered food and drinks. The bartender was very helpful in helping us choose house specialties. We had the beef carpaccio and the eggplant. Both were tasty and enjoyable. The bartender was nice enough to suggest a great wine pairing.They were busy, as it was a Saturday night. I can definitely see why you might want to make a reservation ahead of time. Parking was easy because of the parking lot adjacent to the entrance. Crowd was eclectic with families as well as couples. The next time I stop in I really want to try the pizza. If you're looking for great Italian food and good service, I highly recommend Gales.

Fantastic food, fantastic flavor, Gale and Rene are fantastic hosts. Feels like slightly upscale household! I've been many, many occasions since it started. It's my go to set. . .not constantly on the menu but ask; they may have a chop from the refrig. Their portobello sandwich would be your BEST everywhere and their berry crumble (lots for two ) is comfort food at its very best!

This place is recommended to me while I was in Pasadena by some friends. I ordered the flat iron steak with penne and mashed potatoes. It was pretty delicious. I definitely want to go back to try their carbonara!

It is rare now days to find authentic Italian Restaurants in LA region. Gale’s is the exception, the comprehensive menu and great food makes this restaurant one of my favorites in Pasadena. If you want to dine alone or with friends and family, special occasion with your partner, they can accommodate you. All I can say is you won’t be disappointed with the food and great and friendly service. There is easy access from the street and a big parking lot behind the building. I give this restaurant overall 4 stars.

Gale Kohl is an extremely gracious host that makes every guest feel very welcome. The menu is good and the prices are reasonable, though not cheap. I ordered the lobster and it was cooked to perfection and very tasty. Alcohol is a bit overpriced; but, alone or with a date Gale's is a good dining experience.

I really enjoy my dining experience when I visit a restaurant for the first time, look at the menu and have at least three options of meals that really grab my interest. This situation is then compounded by the waiter providing the specials of the day. The corn chowder soup was excellent. Then I got to enjoy their scampi fettuccine which was excellent. They have a very large selection of fine wines by the glass. I recommend you definitely try this establishment out for a great Italian experience.

There is nothing better for Italian food within 30 miles. Superb wine food atmosphere and clientele. If there's a mob boss in Pasadena he's eating here at Gail's I can guarantee you that. The service is extremely personable and professional. You'll always get some yummy bread balsamic and olive oil. The appetizer, the main course, the desert, while I just don't want to stop ordering food. You could go to a swankier place, you could pay a hell of a lot more money, and you're not going to get any better food than Gail's.

Went there for Mother's Day (yeah, I know) and the service and food was excellent

This place simply knows how to treat their customers. Regularly with a friendly demeanor. The food is conveniently priced, always tasty and neat.

We've been to Gales's twice and have always enjoyed our meals there. The pastas are innovative and very flavorful. This time we ordered the short-rib ravioli with mushrooms to share and it was lovely. Organic green salad and the artichokes with burrata were great too. The only downside of dining here is that the chef is quite heavy handed with the salt. Reminder to ourselves to ask for less salt next time. Pizza crust was nice but toppings were also a tad too salty. Ended our meal with a decadent chocolate cake. Prices are a tad high here, I would prob expect to pay around 85 (tip and tax inclusive), but it ended up about 100.

Opened up Dinner with the Fennel and Aged Manchego Cheese Salad, all the right flavors for a high end salad creation like this, fresh, a bit zingy and the right texture along with well done presentation of the Manchego cheese,  on to the main course;  Gnocchi Arrabiata with Roasted chicken and local Made Burata, the Gnocchi is made by the chef himself, the taste on this is an event to experience, a new great meaning to melt in your mouth, the best Gnocchi on the planet to date, the sauce added some kick that can only be experienced with your taste buds. Let's wrap this meal up with a slice of Coconut Creme Cake, yes that right Creme Cake. I intentionally did not finish my main course specifically to prepare for the dessert event.  I had coconut cake before but nothing comes close to this, yes it's cake but texture like creme and phenomenal coconut flavor I have never experienced until now.  wow.

Gale’s been around for a very long time and I used to visit often until I moved out of the area. It always has that neighbor friendly feel. Their pasta & pizzas are better than mi piace! Extensive wine list with one of the lowest markup in LA. I love their pastas, fennel salad, and steak. Zuppe di peces too! It does get crowded on weekend nights though.

Very good food and, Mike, was a great waiter. It has apparently been there for 18 years but we were introduced to it only a couple years ago. I ordered the spaghetti lemon scampi with capers. The shrimp was large, cooked just right and there were at least 6, if not more. It was a little dry when it first arrived but I was graciously given more sauce when I asked. It came quickly too. The accoustics are not the best and when full it can be quite noisy. It is all worth it for the dinner... but even more for the desserts. They have the best dessert menu I have seen in years. We ordered the coconut cake and the apple tart. Both were fantastic! You definitely need to give Gale's a try. My guess is that you will return again and again.

We thoroughly enjoyed Gail's restaurant! The food was delicious and a nice way to top off a day at the Huntington Museum. I will drive a half an hour from Lake Balboa to Pasadena to enjoy Gales restaurant and Fine Food again

Although the overall experience here was okay, I don't believe I'll be coming back. The quality of the food was not on par with the high price point. We paid $17 for our pasta, and it was definitely not worth it. The table next to us (very close might I add) also complained that their chicken was dry. The location has potential with it's beautiful seventies style glass brick walls, exposed kitchen, decent parking and very friendly staff... But when your food ranges from $15-$40 per plate, you can't stuff your restaurant with as many seats as possible. They had double the tables they should've and it made it feel like a cafeteria, not an elevated night out. Decent, okay place. But not the upscale Italian restaurant we thought we were visiting. Highlight of the place was the giant head from the statue of David sitting above the kitchen.

Overall OK experience. The bread was fine. The meal was fine. I ordered the “Brother Jerry’s Tortelloni Bolognese”. Portion size was adequate for the price however I felt this dish was lacking in flavor.

I sent my friends to this restaurant with my highest recommendations. I go to this restaurant often. This recommendation is always successful. The meals are tasty and the stuff is efficient and cooperative. Every time we go to this place we pass a pleasing time. highly recommended.

Gale's a local Italian restaurant that's somewhat hidden in the busy streets of Pasadena. I like their rustic and classic decor that's very well blended with the natural lighting. I had their scampi linguini with a meatball addition and enjoyed it very much. Customer service was excellent. Prices are roughly in $$$ range, but at least the portions are generous for a one-person meal.

My husband and I came here for dinner and had a great experience. The food is a bit on the pricey side, but everything is delicious and the service is friendly and prompt. The meal comes with bread and salad, free of charge. There is a full bar as well. I'd definitely come back!
